Under the leadership of a top-notch coaching staff, our athletes benefit from a competitive environment where they experience the benefits of teamwork. Through discipline and commitment to hard work, they learn the keys to success. And succeed they have! In recent years our teams have participated in an impressive number of state playoff events in nearly every sport and experienced tremendous success on and off the court or field.
We encourage each athlete to strive to do his or her personal best and do so in a way that portrays solid sportsmanship mirrored in acts of kindness, compassion, and justice.
ATHLETIC MISSION
Westside athletics exist to contribute to the development of the whole person to the glory of God. We do this by seeking out and intentionally equipping an excellent and committed coaching staff. We provide a high quality competitive athletic experience through which the athletes will develop physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
OUR COACHING STAFF IS COMMITTED TO:
- * Teach life lessons through sports and encourage life-long participation in athletics.
- * Provide athletes with opportunities for developing leadership skills.
- * Teach sportsmanship to the athletes, who will learn to win humbly as well as to lose with dignity.
- * Model and teach integrity by playing by the rules.
- * Teach the value of teamwork and emphasize the team above individual success.
- * Provide opportunities to serve one another and others through participation in athletics.
- * Encourage the development of perseverance through responding to the challenges inherent in competitive athletics.
- * Teach the athletes through discipline and commitment to hard work that effort and participation are the keys to success. Winning contests is a by-product of their effort and hard work, and should not be the ultimate goals.
- * Model and teach Christ-honoring character qualities through athletics, so that they can be developed in our student athletes. The leadership and behavior of the coach is essential to the character development of student athletes.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Westside has consistently experienced a great deal of success in athletics. Last year, many of our varsity teams competed in State Championship tournaments. Additionally, our Boys Track team won the State Championship, our Boys Golf team and our Baseball team placed 2nd in State, and our Girls Track team placed 3rd in State.
Boys Baseball- Qualified for District playoffs in 1998-2000 and State playoffs from 2007-2009. 2nd in State in 2008 and 2009.
Boys Basketball- Qualified for District and State playoffs in 1994, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2008. 4th in State in 2000, 2001, and 2002. 6th in state in 2008.
Girls Basketball- Qualified for State playoffs in 2006-2008. 6th in State in 2007.
Boys Golf- District champions in 2005-2008, 7th in State in 2004, 5th in 2005, State Champions 2006-2008, 2nd in State in 2009.
Boys Cross Country- District champions from 1997-2006; 4th in State in 2004, 3rd in 2005, 2nd in 2006, 5th in 2007, Qualified for State in 13 of last 14 years.
Girls Cross Country- Qualified for State in 12 of last 14 years, 4th in State in 2002, 3rd in 2005, and 2nd in 2006.
Boys Soccer- Qualified for District playoffs in 1996, 1997, 2000-2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Qualified for State playoffs in 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2007.
Girls Soccer- Qualified for District playoffs in 2005-2009. Qualified for State playoffs in 2006-2009.
Girls Tennis- First State qualifier in 2007.
Boys Track and Field- District champions in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2009. State Champions in 2009.
Girls Track and Field- District champions in 2003, 2004, and 2007. 3rd in State in 2007 and 2009.
Girls Volleyball- Qualified for District playoffs in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2008, and 2009.
