DATABASES

An online database is an electronic collection of articles or records organized in a logical order by subject or topic. The articles or records located in a database are most often peer reviewed and the most reliable sources you will find online.

OSLIS, established in 1998, is a gateway to Internet resources designed for Oregon K-12 students. Access to online databases is licensed through Gale Cengage Learning. On-site tutorials and information pathfinders will assist you with research skills and the ethical use of information.

SEARCH ENGINES

Automated "robots" crawl through billions of Web pages for a broad search of a subject or keyword.
CAUTION: Without a clear search strategy you may end up surfing which we all know is a major waste of your time.

METASEARCH ENGINES

A metasearch engine searches the search engines! Confusing? These engines sweep across a broad spectrum of selected search engines to identify, collect, and organize results according to your subject. Again, this is a good place to start, but a search strategy will help you to navigate the hundreds of results a metasearch will return to you.
